The Australorps are very mild mannered. The first batch of all different breeds was pretty wild at times- loved roosting on the edge of the box. Hardly any of the Australorps do that and they mainly stay in their box- as opposed to exploring the kitchen.

I have heard they can be quite tame and affectionate. I am not sure ours will be- the kids get a little wild around them and cause them to be a bit skittish. But they still tolerate being held and carried around when caught.

There is another story about the funky chicken coming up- if I ever download the photos that are on my camera.

Australorps -- I think we need some. We always go to chick days at Orscheln and pet the babies (which you're not supposed to do).

Of course chicks of our own have been a goal for a while now, and last year's guinea project was a wretched disaster, so ... we'll see.

My husband used to keep funky chickens for 4-H. Sometimes (I hear) they end up being quite the lovey pets.
